Carol L. Skolnick, Certified Facilitator of The Work of Byron Katie: How I Work
Since 2002 I have worked with thousands of people—individuals, couples, business associates and community groups in the U.S. and Latin America—using The Work of Byron Katie, the transformational process of inquiry that has been radically effective in my own life and work, and in those of hundreds of thousands of people around the world.
However, my main interest as a facilitator is to make myself obsolete. That's because I know the freedom of not needing a teacher.
Once learned, The Work is a tool you can use on your own, for life. Asking yourself The Work's targeted self-inquiry questions on a regular basis can result in greater personal and professional effectiveness, better communication in relationships, and an enhanced sense of well-being. No instructor is needed.
At first, some of us struggle with asking ourselves these questions, or we don’t know how. Even those of us who have been doing The Work for awhile can still feel stuck or confused at times…particularly when a belief seems very powerful, or when we are experiencing a lot of stress and “can’t see the forest for the trees." That's where I can be of help.
As your facilitator, I hold a safe space for you to examine your stressful thoughts, express yourself openly and honestly and find your own truth. In addition, I'll help you stay on track with the process when the mind wanders or wants to defend…point out underlying beliefs unearthed during your session…and suggest different angles to questions that may not have occurred to you. This is meant to assist you in making your way to your own answers and tap into the knowledge we all have equally.
I see my role as an educator. As such, I provide my clients with clear and practical, individually tailored assignments designed to help you delve more deeply into your process. I do not offer spiritual teachings, advice, goal-oriented coaching or therapy; I simply ask questions; you teach yourself.
I facilitate The Work of Byron Katie in person, by telephone, and through workshops and seminars. I am also available to visit your place of business, your school, your community group, or house of worship. I love to share my experience of how inquiry applies to a variety of personal situations, as well as how to use The Work with different populations. You may also elect to have me guide your group through the exercises in Loving What Is, the sourcebook for The Work.
"Carol is an excellent facilitator, very clear and focused, caring and honest. I am beginning to consciously look at my thoughts, which brings me back to the present moment and compels me to be more honest with myself." —R.G., Brooklyn, NY
