Inquiry in the Workplace
Many of my clients come to inquiry because of work and career issues or extreme stress on the job, with problems ranging from burnout to boredom, from fear of failure to fear of success, from “inept” employees to “backbiting” colleagues to “tyrannical” supervisors. Not long ago, I had a lengthy consulting gig at an organization in turmoil, where I re-experienced for myself many of my clients' current concerns:
- “There’s not enough time to get it all done.”
- “My boss shouldn’t lose her temper.”
- “My co-workers should be friendlier.”
- “Management doesn’t care about the employees.”
- “Employees don’t care about the company.”
- “I don’t get enough pay or respect for what I do.”
- “They need to handle things differently around here.”
- “I can’t deal with interruptions and change.”
- “The business world is cut-throat.”
I recognized that these beliefs are not only stressful; they appear to place limits on the infinite mind's ability to innovate, solve problems creatively, listen to direction and accept criticism constructively. A
closed mind on the job leads very quickly to resentment, depression and burnout. It’s not hard to see how unquestioned beliefs like the ones above can affect productivity and relationships from the break room to the boardroom, from admin pro to CEO.
My 20-plus years of corporate experience, with an emphasis in education, publishing and nonprofit organizations, have given me an invaluable perspective on how attachment to beliefs makes or breaks business relationships, which in turn affects efficiency and the bottom line.
I am available to work with executives, management and staff, either individually or in groups.
